Basketball-NBA:

  • This week’s games:
    • Monday was a high scoring day in general with 12 teams over 120 points. Thunder on scored 140 against the Hawks who put up 129 and lost! But the Heat would have the highest score of the day with 147. That was due to 2 Qs of 40+ including the 3Q with 47. Surprisingly they would beat the Nuggets of all teams so this wasn’t against the Wizards or anything!
    • Of the 4 games that were played on Tues, there were no upsets. The 76ers and Grizzlies did go into OT but the 76ers managed to put away Memphis by 3 even with Morant scoring 40 himself.
    • I spoke ill of the Wizards earlier but they would get their 8th win on Wed over the Bucks by 1. The Knicks/Spurs game was a good one. NY started hot with a 45 point 1Q and because of that they would hold the lead for the majority of the game. their largest lead was 19 points but SA come back to take their first lead of the game with 3:08 left in the 3Q. They would go back and forth til the end but Spurs get the last laugh with a 2 point win.
    • Kawahi Leonard put on a clinic Thurs in the Clippers game against the Jazz. He would score 45 points in their 17 point victory. The Pistons have been playing well this season, coming into Thurs 25-8 on the season. But they would drop a game to the Heat who had them beat in all Qs til the 4th but it was too late!
    • The Hawks bounced back nicely from their early loss to OKC Monday. They would beat the Knicks on Friday by 22 and that was with a 17 point 4Q. The Knicks would drop another game the next day to the 76ers by 11. The Trail Blazers managed to sneak one by the Spurs to get the upset by 5. That puts SA at 10 losses for the season.
    • On Sunday, the Thunder lost their first game of the season who another team that wasn’t the Spurs. This one was to the Suns who had a strong 2H to come back to win by 3. The Nuggets lost 4 of their last 5 games ending with a puzzling one to the Nets by 12 on Sunday.
    • God how the mighty have fallen. The Pacers are now 6-30 for the year and just 1-16 away.

Basketball – NCAAM:

  • No ranked losses til Wed. Then 21. UVA and VT went to 3OT on NYE. The win prob chart changed teams 38xs! Despite that VT led for 58% of the game according to Espn. VT went off in 3rd OT to pull away and win by 10! The score was still only 95-85.
  • Michigan vs usc. Mich favored by 22 on Fridays game and they covered! Last time usc beat top 2 team was 2000 against Az. 30 point win for wolverines. Michigan has now won 4 games by 40 this season. Thats the most in Big Ten.
  • Stanford upset 16. Louisville by 4 overall but beat the Cards in both halves!
  • Nebraska still undefeated after beating 9. Michigan St in a low scoring affair 58-56. Despite losing the stat battle, Nebraska hit the game tying 3 with 1:51 left and took the win for there.
  • 17 Kanas lost to UCF in Sat! Sounds bad for the Jayhawks and it certainly isn’t good but UCF is off to their best start since 2011 at 12-1. Peterson still was the leading scorer with 28 points but UCf beat them in both halves.
  • Smu and 12. UNC were tied at half. But then the mustangs went off. They put up 58 in the 2H to dominate 97-83.
  • Ark beat Tennessee was a ranked match up. It was a back and forth game until ~9 to go in the 2H then Arkansas ands Acuff took over. They would win by 11.
  • 22 Florida lost to Mizzou in an even game. This now as the gators at 9-5 for the season.

Football – NCAAF:

  • CFP Quarterfinals:
    • We start with the first Quarterfinal of the 4, the Cotton Bowl. #10 Miami vs #2 Ohio St. Ohio St only had 4 drives longer than 50 yards and 2 of them ended in no points with a missed FG and a pick 6. Miami led 14-0 at halftime but the Buckeyes weren’t done yet. They would come out of the locker room and scored a TD. Miami would answer with a FG and Ohio St would score another TD to bring the score to 17-14. That’s when you were kinda like ok here we go. But then Miami scored a TD and they INT’d Julian Sayin on the way to tie it up. And just like that, the reigning champs are out!
    • The Rose Bowl was kinda boring. You cant make this up but #9 Alabama only scored a FG and that is it all game! It was an ass-kicking. #1 Indiana destroyed the Tide, scoring 24 straight points. They won in every stat category and Alabama even benched their QB, Ty Simpson. Nothing else to expand on here. Indiana knocks out a powerhouse.
    • The Orange Bowl was a defensive battle for the most part. Hope you took the under in this one. #4 Texas Tech’s defense kept #5 Oregon mainly at bay but man their offense just couldn’t do anything. Oregon is known for being a team that limits big plays and Tech was known for needing those big plays to score. The 4 turnovers for the Red Raiders certainly didn’t help either. It was a mismatch and the score showed it. Oregon wins 23-0.
    • Ok but then the Sugar Bowl was awesome! #6 Ole Miss and #3 Georgia was a rematch and it was better than the first one. Ole Miss started by kinda shutting down UGA and took the early lead 6-0. And just like the last time, UGA came storming back to take the lead 21-12. Then it got really fun the 2H. Georgia missed a FG then there was a bunch of scoring! Ole Miss took the lead 27-24 into the 4Q, then UGA had a fumble and it only took 2 plays for Ole Miss to score and take the 10 point lead. But then Georgia scored 10 straight points to tie it back up! Ole Miss got the ball back with 55 seconds left. They manage to get into FG range with 1 40 yard pass and nail the FG. They would add a safety on top for good measure with the 1 second that was left on the clock after the kickoff. Then there was a little bit of ‘is the game over or not’ mess for a while. The trophy presentation stage was brought out on to the field 2xs and had to be removed. But that would ultimately be the final score Ole Miss gets their revenge 39-34.

Football – NFL:

  • There were 2 games on Saturday.
    • The Bucs/Panthers game was a big one as they are both in the NFC East. The Bucs would score 13 in the 1H and outlast the Panthers 16-14. That would keep their playoff hopes alive but they would still need some help.
    • The other game was between payoff teams who are both already in so it was just a good game. The Seahawks kept the 49ers out of the endzone for the whole game, except a FG. They would win 13-3.
  • There were 6 close games this week but not all of them meant something. The Commanders had already been eliminated from playoffs but they still managed to beat the Eagles by a TD. They scored 14 points in the 4Q to comeback to win and end their season in a good note. Both eliminated teams, the Chiefs and Raiders played a low scoring kinda boring game. No TDs were scored in this one, it was all FGs and 1 safety by the Raiders. LV would get the win by that safety! The Lions were beating the Bears 16-0 going into the 4Q but CHI would come back to score 16 straight points to tie it up. But DET would get the last laugh with a walkoff FG. But the Bears still make it to the playoffs. The Falcons beat the Saints by 2 and the Browns beat the Bengals also by 2 in games with all teams being done with their seasons now. The Texans and Colts had a really close game which kinda sucked for Indy. Indy had 3 TDs that all resulted in Texans points (16 to be exact including a scoop & score as time ran out) so if you took that away, they would’ve won this game. But alas, Houston wins by 8. The other good game was the Steelers/Ravens and this one for playoffs on the line! The Ravens started off well leading 10-3 at half. But the 3Q was all Pittsburg with 10 points to take the lead. In the 4Q, the teams would trade TDs to end up at 26-24 Pitt with 55 seconds left. Lamar Jackson would lead Baltimore to the 26 yard line to set up a 44 yard FG to win but they miss!
  • Some not so close games: The Pats crushed the Dolphins 38-10. Miami scored all of their points in the 2Q. The Rams put up 37 in their 17 point win over the Cardinals. There was only one TD scored in the Broncos/ Chargers game and it belonged to DEN. They would win 19-3. Speaking of not scoring TDs, the Packers wouldn’t get one either and that would let the Vikings slide a 13 point win in there. The Bills dominated the Jets 35-8 and all 8 points were in the 4Q. But no one team crushed their opponent as much as the Jags over the Titans. Jacksonville scored 24 points in the 2Q to annihilate TN 41-7.
