Baseball – MLB:

  • This week’s games:
    • The Phillies got a walk off win in the 10th on an interference call with the bases loaded. That call led to the score and the 1 run win over the Red Sox. The Rockies lost their 76th game to the Cardinals who stopped their 3-game losing streak. The White Sox won their 4th game in a row this one to the Rays but they would lose the next day. The Giants lost their 6th straight game this one to the Braves on Monday. They would win the next two to win that series before losing the final 3 to the Mets to round off the week.
    • Astros P Valdez won his 10th game in a row 3-1 over the Dbacks and 11th of the season. The Mariners upset the Brewers 1-0 which broke Milwaukee’s 11 game win streak on Tuesday. They would take their revenge the next day with 17 hits to win 10-2.
    • Reds P Lodolo pitched his first complete game with 8 Ks in their shutout 5-0 win over the Nationals. Giants P Verlander finally ended the franchise record 16 game winless streak with a 9-3 victory over the Braves. His record for the season is now 1-8, crazy for a Cy Young winner. The Rockies got their 26th win of the season and first shutout win with a 6-0 over the Cardinals on Wed. The Yankees made 4 errors during their game to lose by 4 runs to the Blue Jays.
    • Speaking of the Blue Jays, they got an impressive win on Thursday over the Tigers 11-4. Those teams both have 60+ wins for the season. There were only 5 games on Thursday as well.
    • The White Sox would win 11-9 over the Rays and then 12-5 over the Cubs before losing the series. The A’s put up 15 runs over the Astros for an embarrassing loss for HOU. The Phillies crushed the Yankees 12-5.

    • The Guardians/Royals had a double header on Saturday and Game 1 went into extra innings. You have to hate when that happens the Royals hit a 3-run HR in the 10th to win before going into game 2. Game 2 was won by the Guardians 6-4. The Orioles took the cake for the most runs of the week with an 18-0 win over the Rockies! Cal Raleigh added #40 of the season in their 7-2 win over the Angels.
    • The Blue Jays had a nice run going before the Yankees ruined it last week and the Tigers ruined another run on Sunday this week. Angels stars Mike Trout hit a HR to reach his 1,000 career RBI in LA’s 4-1 win over Seattle. The Giants are sitting on their 7th win after the week so TBD how long they keep that alive this upcoming week.
  • The Class of 2025 HoF was inducted this past week. Suzuki is the first JPN player to be admitted.

Football:

  • Colorado HC Deion Sanders called a meeting this week noting that he is cancer free after having his bladder removed. His bladder had a tumor on It but doctors have said since its removal, he is cancer free.
  • Aaron Rodgers has been signed to a one year deal with the Steelers after which he will retire.

  • At least 100 players have been given penalties/fines after a NFL Super Bowl ticket scandal came to light this past week. 100+ players and dozens of officials have been fined for selling their alloted Super Bowl tickets for more than face value (against league policy).

Golf:

  • Kurt Kitayama shot his career best 60 and a tournament tying record 60 in the 3rd round of the 3M Classic. He finished with a 65 in the final round to win by 1. Kitayama won the Arnold Palmer in 2023 as his only other win on the PGA Tour but has missed 7 cuts this season.
  • The LIV tour was back in action in the UK this weekend and it was not a surprise by Joaquin Neimann yet again captures the title. This weekend was his 5th win on the LIV tour this season. More of a surprise than we would’ve thought given that his week started with firing his caddie after missing the cut at the Open. All of that and Torque GC didn’t win the team title, Legion XIII managed to come from behind to win that.

Olympic Sports:

  • Tadej Pogacar won his 4th Tour de France title on Sunday coming down the stretch of the Champes Elysees. Jonas Vingegaard, who has won the race 2xs previously, took 2nd 4m24s behind Pogacar. This is the 5th straight year these two have finished 1-2. Pogacar also clinched the polka dot jersey dominating the mountain stages; he won 4 different stages this year.
  • Swimming Worlds has started in Singapore and to no one in the swimming world’s surprise, Summer McIntosh is 2 for 2 as she goes for 5 golds at this year’s worlds. She won the 400 free on day 1 and the 200 IM on day 2. McIntosh will also go for gold in the 400 IM, 200 Fly and 800 Free. But not all is lost for the US, Gretchen Walsh broke through for USA’s first gold in the 100 fly. Yu Zidi is also making headlines. The CHN 12 year old finished just off the podium in the 400 free. She is also slated to compete in the 400 IM and 200 Fly, her stronger events. It was confirmed that Team USA had a case of tummy troubles and multiple members were effected.

Quick Highlights:

  • Basketball: Kobe Bryant’s shoes (adidas EQT Top 10) from his first start for the Lakers sold at auction for $240K.
  • Motorsports: Bubba wallace won the Brickyard 400 this weekend. This makes him the first black driver to win a major race on Indianapolis Speedway.
  • F1: Oscar Piastri won for McLaren in the Belgian GP. It was a race between the two McLarens has Norris was just 3 second behind, beating the rest of the field by 18+ seconds.
  • WWE: Hulk Hogan died this week att he age of 71. He was the 3rd longest WWF champion of all time and was a well known name in the sport/spactacle that was pro wrestling.
