Quick Headlines: NWSL addd ATL. Antonio Brown arrested. Figure Skating. F1.
Basketball-NBA:
- This week’s games: The Pelicans got their first win of the season after beating the Hornets on Tuesday by 4. The Nets would follow that up the next night getting theirs as well. The Pacers had only won 1 game prior to that, the Nets would beat them by 9. That same night, the Trail Blazers would hand the Thunder their first loss. OKC started hot up 20 in the 1Q alone. However Portland clawed their way back in each Q to upset the defending NBA champs by 2.
- NBA Cup group play started on Friday. Nothing out of the ordinary happened. Everyone who was supposed to win did. Next round of games is Nov 14.
Basketball – NCAA:
- In the opening week of the season: #3 Florida vs #13 Arizona was the first ranked matchup of the season and the defending champs would be beaten in both Hs to lose this one by 6. After the game was tied at 42 a piece with 4 to go in the 1H and again FL would tie it up again with 7:49 to go. After that Arizona would take control.
- In the matchup of the basketball blue bloods, #25 UNC and #19 Kansas. The Jayhawks would put up 37 in both halves. But UNC who started slow would put up a staggering 58 points in the 2H to win the game by 13.
- There were some big games on Saturday: #15 Alabama scored 50+ in both halves to upset #5 St. John’s in MSG. That is the first time 12 games that the Red Storm lost in that building. In a huge coaching matchup Tom Izzo’s #22 Michigan St and John Calipari’s #14 Arkansas. Despite losingthe 1H by 3, the Spartans would take this one by 3.
Football – NCAAF:
- There were 6 losses in the Top 25:
- Gameday game of the week, #7 BYU traveling to Lubbock. The Big question experts were asking was can anyone in the Big 12 block #8 Texas Tech and the answer is no in this case. BYU wouldn’t score until under 8 min to go in the game. They also had 3 turnovers but TT had this one in the bag. Red Raiders hand BYU their first loss fo the season 29-7.
- The ACC is in trouble now. Wake Forest scored the only TD of the game was off a kick return. #14 UVA would not be able to get into the endzone at all the entire game and would lose their 2nd game of the season 16-9.
- Cal and #15 Louisville tied 4xs during their game including at the end of regulation. Louisville would only manage a FG in OT so that opened the door for Cal. But the Bears would go down to their final play and have to make the call to go for it on 4th & goal from the 3. They had the guts to go for it and it paid off. Sagapoulutele’s pass was on the money and they upset the Cards. Now the race for the ACC champ becomes very interesting.
- #9 Oregon and #20 Iowa was a gross game in the rain. Iowa scored to take the lead in the 4th on a 4th & goal from the 3. They would go for two and not get it so they only lead by 1. So Ore would only need to get into FG range. Moore threw a dime and led the game winning drive. Their K Atticus Sappington would nail the FG to win 18-16.
- #22 Mizzou is on their true Fresh QB Zollers and he didn’t have a single pass past the line of scrimmage in the 1H. that and he had 2 sacks and a fumble. The defense contained #3 Texas A&M for the most part but they broke it open in the 2H. Aggies roll in Como 38-17.
- Wisconsin had some life left and their defense showed up for their HC who announced he will be returning next season. The Badgers had to change QBs after injury but it was still enough to beat #23 Washington 13-10. This snaps a 6 game losing streak for Wisc. They had lost 11 straight against P4 opponents.

- Other headlines from around the football universe:
- Penn state player their asses off. They took the lead over #2 Indiana with 5min left. But Mendoza earned his Heisman favorite odds with a drive all the way down the field with no time outs. It Comes down to 3 and 7 on the goal line and a video review on an espn top plays type catch to give IU the TD to seal it 27-24.
- Auburn benched Jackson Arnold and that was clearly the correct decision. Daniels went 31/44 with 2 TDs and 353 yards on #16 Vanderbilt. However Deigo Pavia didn’t stay an extra year for nothing. Vandy trailed 17-3 at one point but came back to take their first lead of the game at 7:37 in the 3Q. they would score 2 TDs in the 4Q to be up by 8 in the final 8 min. However Auburn paid their WR room and you could tell. Cam Coleman came up clutch for the Tigers for the 23 yard TD pass AND the 2-point conversion to tie up the game. We head to OT. Deigo Pavia only needed 3 plays to score a TD and Auburn would fall short. So Vandy escapes.
- #1 Ohio St, #5 Georgia, #6 Ole Miss and #10 ND handled their business with ease.
Football – NFL:
- MNF: The Cardinals had their backup QB with Jacoby Brissett and he was ready for his moment. The Cardinals had a good middle Qs to win 27-17.
- TNF: The Broncos only managed 220 yards on offense but that was more than the Raiders. DEN’s defense kept the Raiders to one TD in the first 12 min of the game and that was it all game. That was enough for the Broncos to win by 3.

- The NFL fans in Germany got a thriller. The Colts only scored points in the first and final quarters. The Falcons scored a touchdown and a two point conversion to go up by three with a minute 44 to go but the Colts nailed a 44 yard field goal to take it to overtime. The Falcons would lose 8 yards on their drive while the Colts would score a touchdown to secure the win. Indianapolis moves to eight and two.
- There were four other close games the jags look to have the Texans handled leading 29 to 10 going into the fourth quarter however back up quarterback Davis Mills went off in the fourth scoring 26. The final play of the game was a sack on Jack’s quarterback Trevor Lawrence than a fumble recovered by the Texans and a 32 yard touchdown as time expired to win the game. The Jets won off explosive plays. They got a 99-yard kick return and then got a 74 yard punt return and a 42 yard TD pass all for TDs. That would set them up to beat the Browns. The Giants/Bears game was snowy in true perfect this matchup fashion. The Giants scored 17 unanswered points to take the lead. But the Bears down 10 with 4min to go, score a TD, make a 3&out stop to get the ball back with 2:53 to go and would only use just over a minute of that and 4 plays to score the go ahead TD and take the win.

- Some not so close games: The Dolphins put up the first 16 points on the Bills who only managed to score 2 TDs in the 4Q. Each TD the Bills would score, Mia would answer. Miami upsets Buffalo 30-13 in a turnover fest (5 in this game! 3 MIA 2 BUF). The Panthers would score 1 TD in the 1Q and that was it. The Saints get their 2nd win of the season with Tyler Shough at the helm. The Rams scored at least 1 TD in every Q to beat the 49ers 42-26. The Seahawks offense went off in the 1H, putting up 38 points and then took the rest of the game off to win 44-22 over the Cardinals. The Lions also beat the Commanders with the same score!
- SNF: The Chargers started the game with a safety of all things and the Steelers offense would only score 1 TD and 1 FG all night. LA wins this one easily by 15.
Golf:
- Ben Griffin took the WWT Championship for his 3rd PGA Tour title this season. he would win by 2 shots and join Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy as the only players with 3 wins.
- The PGA Tour announced a new tournament or maybe I should say a returning tournament. The tour will go back to Ashville NC for the first time since 1942 in the Biltmore Championship on Sept 17-20.
Quick Highlights:
- Soccer: Atlanta will be the newest NWSL team, making that total to 17.
- Football: Antonio brown was arrested on a murder charge from back in May after a celeb boxing match shooting.
- Figure Skating: Kaori Sakomoto defended her title in the final NHK Trophy after a flawless freeskate on Saturday. She is set to retire after the Milan Cortina Olympics.
- F1: Lando Norris started on pole and went unchallenged at the front. But we had some excitement with Max Verstappen who had a comeback from a pit lane start to finish 3rd. There are only 3 races left and Norris leads the championship over his McLaren teammate Piastri by only 24 points.
