Football – NFL: Only 1 close game this week. But other games um happened too.

Golf: Brennan wins on a sponsor exemption for his first PGA Tour title.

Olympic Sports: FRA. GYM. Figure Skating.

Quick Headlines: F1 and FRA Enhanced Games.

Baseball – MLB:

  • AL Championship Series – Game 7: it was awesome! Both teams put up 1 run in the 1st. The Mariners got a HR in the 3rd and the Dumper hit one in the 5th to go up 3-1. But in the 7th inning, George Springer hit a 3-run homer to take the lead 4-3 and that would be the game! Blue Jays make their first World Series since 1993.

  • The World Series:
    • Game 1 was on Friday in Toronto. The Dodgers drew first blood with a run in the 2nd and a run in the 3rd. But the Blue Jays would tie it up with a 2-run HR in the 4th. Then Toronto went nuts in the 6th with a rally that would bring in 3 batters and then a grand slam on top of that and a 2-run HR on top of that. So it would be 11-2. Ohtani would get a 2-run HR but it wouldn’t be enough.World Series:
    • Game 2: Started the exact same way with a Dodgers run. Blue Jays tied it up in the 3rd. nothing else would happen until the 7th. The Dodgers would get 2 single HRs and then a rally in the 8th also added 2 to the scoreboard. The Blue Jays had no answer this time. They would have 4 hits and left 4 batters stranded on base. Dodgers tie up the series with a 5-1 win.

Basketball-NBA:

  • Opening week of the NBA season! The defending champs Thunder have been through it. Game 1 went into 2OT against the Rockets. The Warriors beat the Lakers by 10 despite Luka scoring 43 points. The Spurs and Wemby beat up on the Mavs beating them by 33. Wemby put up 40. The Thunder’s 2nd game also went to OT but against the Pacers so a championship rematch. SGA needed to score 55 to win this game. On the same night (Thurs) Aaron Gordon from the Nuggets also put up 50 but they would still lose in OT to the Warriors. Luka scored 49 points in the Lakers game Friday night. After the Timberwolves only scored 16 points in the final Q, 128-110. The Hornets scored 44 in each Q for the 2H of their game on Sunday. They beat the Wizards handily 139-113.
  • Coach of trailblazer and another 10 year player threw a high stakes poker game with the mafia. Has a table that could see cards a face down. And along with another cheating scandal around prop bets.

Football – NCAAF:

  • There were 6 losses in the Top 25:
    • #8 Ole Miss gets first road win vs ranked sec opponent. Mateer just didn’t see it and did not play well. Couldn’t believe his completion percentage was 50%. Ole Miss looked like the better team but #13 Oklahoma had a chance to win in the 4Q until the Sooners fumbled a 50 yard kick return. Ole Miss would score 9 unanswered in the 4Q to win 34-26.

    • #10 Vandy and #15 Miz were locked in a battle. Until the 3Q when Vandy broke open with an 80 yard then Miz lost their QB Pribula. Miz ran 78 plays vs Vandy 45 but it still came down to the end. Miz threw a Hail Mary on the final play. Caught it but was half a yard short of the goal line!
    • Memphis bounced back after the loss last week to beat #18 South Florida. Seems like last week got caught looking ahead. Memphis came back in the 4Q. S Florida misses game tying FG. Made the G5 spot in the CFP much more interesting.

    • #3 Texas A&M has never won in death valley since 1994. They trailed #20 LSU at half with their drives in the 2Q ending in a Safety, INT, INT. Coming back from the locker room, the Aggies would score a TD but then have a blocked punt. But just when you thought the battered Aggie syndrom would show its ugly face, the Aggies turned it on. They were the better team. The Aggies came out and kicked LSU’s ass 49-25.
    • Washington’s QB went off against #23 ILL. Huskies went up early but it was close at half. Each team only had one punt but the Illini had 2 int. Washington wins 42-25
    • Uh had #24 Ariz St handled winning 24-0 going into the 4Q. They tried to let the Sun devils back in letting them score 16 in the 4Q but they would fall short and take another loss to an unranked team.

  • There were lots of escapes this weekend as well.
    • Texas needed OT again to beat a bad team! Scored 24 points in the 4Q to come back and tie it up.
    • Uva also escapes a bad UNC team in Ot. UNC went for the win with the 2 point conversion but would be inches short.
    • Utah destroyed Colorado 40-0 at half and with their back up qb!
    • Miami and TT both put up 40+ to crush their opponents. BYU trailed by double digits twice in this game but pulls through to win as an underdog. They are now 8-0. As is GT with a nice win over Cuse.
    • Indiana is also 8-0 and dominated ucla who was on a nice turn around. But not anymore. Bruins get beat 56-6.
    • Oregon survived a nasty game in the pouring rain and when their QB left the game in 3Q with a face injury. Still beat Wisconsin 21-7. First time Wisconsin scored a TD in 14 Qs.
    • Alabama looked tired in their final game before the bye. They had played 4 playoff contender teams before this week against sc. Alabama trailed by 8 with 3 min left in the game. They would get a TD at 2:16 then luck was on their side with a gamecock fumble just two plays later. They would score the game winning TD off that drive. Bama escaped.
    • Sunflower showdown looked like if was tough to be fun. K st owned the Jayhawks. KU had 4 turnovers.
    • TT ran the opening kickoff back and game was over.
    • Arkansas had 4 turnovers and Auburn changed their qb.
  • LSU HC Brian Kelly was fired after their ass whooping on Saturday by Texas A&M. You could hear the ‘Fire Kelly’ chants from the stands and thats saying something because there weren’t a lot of people left in the stadium.

Football – NFL:

  • MNF: There was a double header. The Lions RB Gibbs rushed for 218 yards and 2 TDs. The normally lucrative Bucs offense, only scored a TD (without a PAT) and a FG as the 1H clock ran out. DET wins 24-9. The 2nd game was late – I was up way too late watching on a school night. The Seahawks had 4 turnovers and it was a penalty flag fest. Both teams had 10 or more for 90+ yards. Despite those turn overs, Seattle’s defense shutdown the Texans to only 2 drives with double digit plays. Seattle would win this one 27-19.
  • TNF: The Chargers QB Justin Herbert scored 3 TDs in their domination of the Vikings. MN only managed to get into the endzone 1x all game. LA wins 37-10.
  • There was 1 close games this week: The Bengals were beating the Jets 24-13 at half time. It was still 31-16. However, the Jets came back to score 23 points to come back to win by 1. This is their first win of the season.

  • Other than that, a lot of not close games. The Dolphins crushed the Falcons despite being an underdog. ATL only scored a TD in garbage time, losing 10-34. The Patriots scored 3 TDs in the 3Q alone to beat the Browns 32-13. The Bills smoked the Panthers 40-9. The Saints only managed a FG on their game to the Bucs. Tampa Bay won by 20. The Giants scored a TD in each of the 1 and 4th but the Eagles scored 2 TDs in the 2nd and 4th. NY also lost another big time player as RB Cam Scattebo was carted off the field in a cast. Not good news for the Giants. The Cowboys put up a TD 3 of 4 Qs but it wasn’t enough to keep the Broncos at bay. DEN won 44-24. The other horse team, the Colts scored 38 to the Titans 14.

Golf:

  • Michael Brennan was #451 in the world but he has now he has a spot on the PGA Tour. He won his first PGA Tour title at the Bank of Utah championship this weekend with a score of -22. He entered the tournament on a sponsor exemption!

Olympic Sports:

  • GYM: Brody Malone took home gold in the men’s high bar, beating All-Around winner JPN Hashimoto. Donnell Whittenberg took home the first gold medal for Team USA in the Rings, beating the 2022 world champ TUR Adem Asil. On the flip side, the women’s team earned the fewest medals since the 2001 in international competition. They only took home a silver in the All-Around by LeAnn Wong and bronze by Joscelyn Roberson. RUS (neutral) Angelina Melnikova cleaned up. She got gold in the All-Around, Vault and silver in the Uneven Bars.
  • Figure Skating: USA Alysa Liu took first in the Cup of China this weekend after she switched back to her old program. Amber Glen got 3rd. Team USA also took gold and silver in the ice dance.

  • Baseball – NCAA: Tennessee’s Baseball HC has left the program to become the manager of the Giants.

Quick Highlights:

  • F1: Lando Norris figured out the track in free practice 3 and would go on to take pole and win the race. Lewis Hamilton was in the podium hunt before a track violations penalty of 10 second dropped him down the order to 8th.
  • General: Any FRA athletes that compete in the Enhanced Games will face sanctions said the French sports authorities. One sprinter has already said he will be competing in the games in Vegas in May.
